The Farasi Lane school rally was an activation to the #StoryForChela campaign. It took place at Farasi Lane Primary school where Chela is a student. The event took place on the 22nd of October 2015 from 10am to midday.

The objective of the activation was to invite the media for a press conference to create awareness of the Story for Chela campaign and the literacy crisis.

Eric kicked off the event by taking the students through the reading pledge and a quick storytelling session with Millie, after which a warm welcome was presented by the primary students of Farasi Lane with song and dance.

After welcoming words from the Headmistress and Deputy Head teacher; Chela psyched the children up with an energetic “Hadithi Hadithi” chant before giving a passionate plea for storybooks.
Dr. Auma Obama took over with an informative speech, highlighting the benefits of reading and why the literacy crisis is major issue in our country.

The children then had an spirited read aloud from the sci-fi book, Attack of the Shidas with Dr. Auma Obama and Muthoni Garland.

After the activation, Dr. Auma Obama, Muthoni Garaland, Chela and Rosemary Mutuukei of Aga Khan Foundation were available to have brief Q&A sessions with the press.
