On 5th December 2016, RAAW Trust through the Start-a-Library initiative will launch its second campaign to get books into public primary schools. Called ‘Gifts that Matter,’ the campaign will run between the 5th of December and the 31st of December 2016 and will encourage Kenyans to donate books to public primary schools.
Our aim is to create awareness about the literacy crisis in the country and to get Kenyans to be part of the solution by equipping public primary schools with books.
Start a library is an engine running to ensure that there is a book in every child’s hand. More than 20,000 primary schools that are in dire need of libraries. We invite both public and private sector stakeholders to invest in the future of our future generations by providing access to supplementary reading materials. So far, the initiative has started over 100 libraries, including the 30 Libraries launched in Makueni County on November 29th, 2016 in partnership with the Office of County Governor Kivutha Kibwana, County First Lady Nazi Kivutha and Start a Library Patron Auma Obama. The ever-vibrant Reading Ambassador Chela was also present.
We continue to press towards achieving our goal of having a library in every primary school in Kenya. If you agree that a good education is the path to a better nation, then join our book wagon and help us give 10million children a chance for a better future.
